"Rebuilding Together Broward County partners with Sears and the Heroes at Home campaign"
On July 13, 2011 Sears and Rebuilding Together Broward County came together and completed a renovation project for homeowner Mr. Austin Stamey a 71 year old Vietnam Veteran.
The project began in November 2010 when Mr. Stamey received a code violation, but thanks to the Heroes at Home Program along with a grant awarded to the Broward affiliate of Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading volunteer home-rehabilitation organization, necessary repairs, improvements and modifications were able to be made in order to honor a local veteran.
Significant repairs were made to Mr. Stamey’s home. In the last several months the entire home was gutted. Some of the work performed in the home included new drywall and insulation being replaced throughout the home, decade old carpet was pulled up to make way for new ceramic tile, which will suit Mr. Stamey and his two beloved dogs much better. Modifications to both of his bathrooms were made in order to make them more assessable and the replacement of old broken window A/C units in order to make it more energy efficient. In addition, Mr. Stamey received a brand new kitchen with all new Kenmore appliances from Sears.
At the end of the renovation Mr. Stamey stated “I don't know what to say. You all gave me my life back. My home was so bad I really didn't know what to do and you did."
