FAQ
WHAT IS REBUILDING TOGETHER BROWARD COUNTY?
We are a non-profit affiliate of Rebuilding Together Inc., the nation’s
largest volunteer based home rehabilitation organization in America. Our mission
is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income
homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, disabled or families with children,
live in comfort, safety, and independence. Our goal is to make a sustainable
impact in partnership with communities.
WHAT IS THE NATIONAL IMPACT OF REBUILDING TOGETHER?
It is projected that in 2004, Rebuilding Together will rehabilitate 8,500 houses
and non-profit facilities with 275,000 volunteers in 865 cities and towns
across America delivering $90 million in market value. During the past 15
years, Rebuilding Together and 2.3 million volunteers have worked to rehabilitate
87,450 houses and non-profit facilities delivering $812 in market value.
IS REBUILDING TOGETHER AFFILIATED WITH A PARTICUALAR CHURCH OR RELIGION?
No. The program embraces all people; all faiths, walks of life, racial and
ethnic groups, ages and sexes. The spirit of the program is that of giving
and sharing. The concept of community involvement to help one another is
a strong part of the organization’s culture.
WHY IS REBUILDING TOGETHER NECESSARY?
Many of our neighbors have worked hard all their lives and have been active
members of their community. Now, due to illness, financial limitations, high
utility costs or any number of uncontrollable causes, they are unable to
do the repair work in their homes to keep them safe, comfortable and dry.
The result is often serious accidents or a fall by the homeowner in these
deteriorating living conditions. Statistics show that over 60% of deaths
of people over 65 are the result of a fall in the home and that 1/3 to 1/2
of all home accidents or falls can be prevented by making modifications to
the home.
Rebuilding Together is much more than simply fixing houses, it is about making
homes and communities better places to live.
HOW IS IT SUCCESSFUL?
Our program is successful because it is neighbors-helping-neighbors to build
safer and stronger communities.
